The modern Cocker Spaniel is descended from the Spaniel family and is believed to have originated in Spain - the word Spaniel means "Spanish Dog" and they were bred for hunting.
The Cocker Spaniel is a loving, gentle and trustworthy family companion, good with children, other pets and the elderly, so it is no surprise that it is one of the top registered breeds.
They are easily trained for the show ring obedience and agility competitions and are also excellent therapy dogs.
